FRAME MATERIALS

Today, frame materials are almost as varied as the styles available. The traditional metals and plastics are still available, but you are almost as likely to find a frame made from stainless steel, titanium or beta-titanium.

Because of their greater strength, stainless steel frames can be made thinner, giving a lighter look and lighter weight. Because the base metal is stainless, they are anti-corrosive and may be worn by some people who are allergic to regular frame metals.

Titanium is a high-tech metal that is extremely strong, but extremely lightweight. A 100% titanium frame is inert, never tarnishes and is hypoallergenic. They are available in every frame style and many different colors and finishes. Beta-titanium is also hypoallergenic, but this form of titanium is flexible, yet still strong and lightweight.

Have you looked at a plastic frame lately? Many of the new plastic frames are made of laminated layers of different color plastics. This means they may be one color in the front and another color on the inside. Some frames are laminated from 3, 4 or even 5 colors and different patterns! They are truly beautiful, original and must be seen to be appreciated.
