Maintenance

All too often damage to warehouse equipment is solved by replacement. We at Desoto Installations can help you to save money by repairing those pallet racks that have been damaged by forklifts, reach trucks, etc. Below is an example of one of the techniques we use. The rack in the picture was bent at a 90 degree angle because a fork lift acccidentally hit it. By cutting out the bad part and adding a very cost efficient sleeve we saved the company a very costly replacement.

By adding a sleeve to damaged racks you can avoid costly replacements.

Preventive Maintenance.. in house or out source?
A scheduled maintenance program can insure more efficient and productive materials handling operation. We all know that. Yet, it is often neglected.

The pressures of product flow leaves many with little or no time for PM. Failure to perform basic and simple maintenance on critical equipment will inevitably lead to failure in the system. Always be at peak load when efficiency is most important.

Maintenance programs don't have to be time consuming and expensive. For many, a program can be implemented during regular business hours using available resources.

Scheduled maintenance is one of the most important and least expensive ways to assure trouble free daily operations. These programs don't have to be expensive.

Whether you implement a simple PM program in house or out source, one should be implemented. Your operation will benefit from fewer stoppages and lower repair costs.

Maintenance Tip #1
If you have rust on the drive chains of your line shaft conveyor, do not lube the chain or use a penetrant like WD 40.
Try this instead:

Remove the chain, clean with solvent and paint it black. The lubricant can migrate to the line shaft and cause slippage.

Maintenance Tip #2
When tracking the belts on live roller and slider bed conveyors, always adjust the snub roller located near the drive under the conveyor.

Tracking the belt from the end rollers does not solve the problem.
